It’s Always Sunny in San Antonio

You may have already heard about the upcoming World Wide Vegan Bake Sale in Austin, which is bound to be the most bad-ass vegan bake sale of all time. In case you haven’t gotten the memo yet, check out Lazy Smurf’s blog post about the WWVBS. I guarantee that her post will get you excited about making AND eating vegan baked goods.

The proceeds for this event will be going to Sunny Day Farms Animal Sanctuary, located right outside of San Antonio, in La Coste, TX.

If you have ever been to Sunny Day, then you already know about the amazing work owner Brooke Chavez does and about the hundreds (maybe thousands) of farm animals she has rescued and given a second chance at life over the last 10 years.

Sunny Day is truly a magical place, both for the animals, and for the people who come to visit and volunteer with Brooke. Sadly, times have been tough on the farm, especially with the severe drought this year, which caused a big increase in the cost of feed. Despite the hardships, Brooke has recently taken on the task of rescuing and finding homes for 25 pygmy goats in Waco, TX. The goats are severely malnourished, in cramped quarters, and surrounded by the dead carcasses of others. I didn’t want to post any sad pictures of these goats, but just know that they definitely do not look like the happy rescued goat above.

In addition to the goat rescue and placement effort, Sunny Day will likely be receiving many unwanted rabbits that were given as Easter gifts in the upcoming months.

Needless to say, Sunny Day needs our help! Here are four ways you can contribute:

  • Donate via PayPal using the email address [email protected].
  • Purchase raffle tickets at the Gathering of the Tribes (a mega vegan potluck) in Austin tomorrow (April 21). All proceeds will go to Sunny Day and you can win some sweet prizes, including restaurant gift certificates, t-shirts, cookbooks, and more!
  • Donate at the World Wide Vegan Bake Sale in San Antonio on Saturday, April 28 and/or at the World Wide Vegan Bake Sale in Austin on Sunday, April 29.
  • Take a look at Sunny Day’s donation wish list and donate any items from the list that you may have lying about the house.  If you can’t make the trip to Sunny Day yourself, leave a message below and we’ll find someone to deliver it for you.
